Our History

People of the GSB community had settled in Hyderabad decades before Independence. However, no formal association or body had been formed.

In those days, trains from Karnataka to North India, passed through Hyderabad. HH Srimad Sudhindhra Teertha Swamiji, Mathadhipathi of Kashimath, who used to travel by train used to camp at Hyderabad at regular intervals. During one such camp, HH had instructed our bandhavas that they should form a formal association so that our GSB bandhavas can have a common platform for religious and social activities. The Gowda Saraswath Brahmana Samaj was thus registered in mid 1977. The First General Body Meeting was held at Kamat Hotel, Saifabad, under the Chairmanship of Sri M. S. Parkal.

The Samaj did not have its own premises at that time. All religious activities were held houses of various bandhavas and public halls.

Samaj has now constructed its own premises at Bandlaguda, Nagole, Hyderabad. The premises is a three storied building which has two halls on the First and Second Floor. The Third floor has rooms for use by visiting Bandhavas. The premises also has a separate arrangement for stay by Swamiji during His camp.

The Samaj started its Ganesh Chaturthi pooja from 1980. Since the Samaj had no premises of its own at that time, the murthi was installed at various locations until the construction of its own premises. The First Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations at our premises was held in the year 2009.

Bandhavas have been holding bhajan get-togethers every month from the last three decades. Earlier, they used to be held in the houses of bandhavas by rotation. Since the construction of our premises, the bhajans are held on the second Sunday of every month without fail. The membership of the Samaj has reached 825 as at 31st March 2016.

The Samaj was located at the time of registration in 1977 at #126-A, Dinesh Nivas, Road No. 4, West Marredpally, Secunderabad- 500026 at the residence of the founder Vice-President Sri. K. Panduranga Pai. After construction of Samaj Building , the registered office was shifted to our premises at # 12-1-468/8&9, Sudhindra Nilaya, Road No.1, Madhura Nagar, GSI Post, Nagole, Hyderabad- 500068.
